In this program, Conservancy workers revisit areas already documented in early twentieth century (1900-1940) photographs taken by early Western explorers and scholars in Yunnan in order to document via photography the changes in the natural and cultural environment over the last century, thus creating a new field of photography—repeated photography. This new field consists of taking a landscape shot at the same time of year and from the same angle as a previous photograph of the site, then comparing the two prints and conducting a survey in order to reveal the changes in the physical and cultural environments and provide scientific data to guide local development projects.
