In 2002, the Community Development Research Center at YASS established five research bases in representative villages in Hani areas. The aim of the program is to provide policy makers and social workers with data originating in the community and that reflect a standard of social and economic development of Yunnan rural areas. The research base located in the Hani village of Malutang conducts the following programs:

 Chronicles of Important Events in the Village by Villagers

 Research of Change in Ethnic Dress and its Development

Hani Textile Arts in Jinping

This film documents the disappearing Hani textile arts in Jinping County. It also documents the work of the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences Community Development Research Center in the village in supporting the development of traditional Hani embroidery, a production activity of Hani women.
