The filmmaker completed this film in collaboration with local people as part of his PhD research at a French university. The object of his research was the traditional religious rituals of the Mosuo of Ninglang County (Yunnan), which were conducted by a ritual specialist called ‘Daba’.
Daba relates in detail three sacrificial rituals: the sacrifices to the Water God, New Year sacrifices to the ancestors and an exorcism ritual for pregnant women. This documentary was selected to be screened at the Cinéma du Réel Festival in France, and was aired on French, Swiss and German television.
